This week is all about promoting British Cheese, something we’ve very fond of here at Alf’s. We use totally British & local cheese on our cheese platter & toasties.
This week also coincides with British Food Fortnight, so we will have Sharpham Brie & Sharpham Garlic & Chive Rustic Toasties. Our cheese boards also include Quickes (from Devon) Goats Cheese & Applewood Smoked Cheddar from Somerset.
Especially for this week we will also have the special Sharpham Savour cheese which is a tangy mix of cows & goats milk created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the creation of the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Watch out for the Savour on your cheese platter...double yum!!!

Alf's Food Festival Events to follow.......
The Dartmouth Food Festival first took place in 2002 in Dartmouth's Market Square. There were only a handful of stalls but a huge amount of enthusiasm from local restaurants, hotels and producers. Over the last 9 years, it's developed into a major food event or as The Daily Telegraph put it (February 2011), a 'heady mix of celebrity chefs, parties, food markets, tasting shacks and demonstrations'.
In 2010, we were lucky enough to retain Mitch Tonks as our Festival Advocate and he in turn encouraged his celebrity friends (Mark Hix, Valentine Warner and Tom Parker-Bowles) to not only turn up but also do a range of demos.
We also saw local heroes like Jane Baxter (Riverford Organics) and Holly Jones (Manna from Devon) cooking alongside wine experts Fiona Beckett (The Guardian) and award-winning Tim McLaughlin-Green from Sommeliers Choice.
Our real aim is to showcase the best that South Devon has to offer - from Riverford Farm Organics through to Well Hung meat and Bigbury Bay Oysters. We're also celebrating the quality of our award-winning restaurants (The Seahorse, Restaurant Angelique, Ode in Shaldon and the Millbrook Inn, South Pool to name but a few) and their amazing chefs. It's probably true to say that South Devon has the most award winning chefs per square foot than any other part of the country (or is that just us being biased?!).
We're also keen to promote the quality of our local hotels, B&Bs and self-catering cottages. If you haven't booked your stay yet, our advice is to check out availability now as this year's festival coincides with the start of Half-Term week in many places.
The Dartmouth Food Festival company is non-profit making - so everything you see at the Festival has been put together by a voluntary team. Not that we're banging our own drum but we just want you to know that anything you spend over the 3 days either supports local trade or boosts our fundraising efforts. If you'd like to get involved, don't be shy - e-mail us care of firstname.lastname@example.org

Alf's in the Avenue

We're joining forces with Coast & Country Cottages who will be hosting biscuit decorating for the kids while we provide the caffine for the parents!!
The Royal Avenue Gardens will be a hive of activity this year, there's a jam packed bill of chef demos in the two demo marquees & lots of fun things for the children to do as well.
So pop along have a coffee, decorate a biscuit, bob an apple & then finish it up with some Alf's Brownie (or Rocky Road, my fave!).
