It is planned that the 'Summer Sizzler' Stand Up Paddleboarding competition (for 'professionals') will kick off the event on Saturday 2nd June (not organised by Venus, but by Red Paddle Co - one of the sponsors of the Venus Riders event).
Heats for the general public will be held on the Saturday, Sunday and Monday with finals on Tuesday 5th June. These were held in the morning on each of the days in previous years.
The age groups in 2010/11 were: 8-12 years, 13-16 years and 17+ years. Although these aren't confirmed for 2012, they are likely to stay the same. The competition was free to enter in previous years and all competitors were also entered into a free prize draw to win fantastic prizes from the event's sponsors.

J/80 Sailing World Championships
Saturday 9th - Friday 15th June
The 2012 J/80 World Sailing Championships will be held in the stunning port of Dartmouth on the south west coast of the UK. In an unprecedented move, the Britannia Yacht Club has agreed to act as the Senior Hosting Club for the championship, working alongside the Royal Dart Yacht Club and the J/80 UK Class Association. The 2012 J/80 World Championship Opening Ceremony will be hosted by the historic Britannia Royal Naval College, as will the Prizegiving Dinner at the close of the regatta.
Seventy five (!) J/80 teams will arrive in the beautiful South Devon town of Dartmouth to compete at the 2012 J/80 World Championship. Entries are expected from the UK, France, Spain, Denmark, Germany, Holland, Sweden, Italy, Russia and the USA, ensuring a truly International, top-level sporting event. This small armada will comprise approximately three hundred and fifty competing athletes and a total of around five hundred visitors to the port. The sailing area for the championship will be in Start Bay, just outside the harbour entrance and so easily visible from the nearby beaches and cliff tops for the enjoyment of spectators.
The UK J/80 fleet recently enjoyed stunning sailing conditions in Dartmouth for their 2011 National Championship which took place in June last year and which was run by the same team from the Royal Dart Yacht Club which will be helping to deliver the Worlds next year. Start Bay offers everything competitors would expect and wish for: open water, big waves and tactically challenging tidal conditions. The prevailing conditions themselves will no doubt prove a real draw for the athletes in the J/80 fleet, but this coupled with the proven warmth and hospitality of the town of Dartmouth alongside the amazing opportunity to experience first-hand the magnificent grandeur and history of Britannia Royal Naval College will ensure that this is a J/80 World Championship quite unlike any other sailing regatta.
The website for the 2012 J/80 World Championships is live now at www.j80worlds2012.com and it contains a whole host of information which will be useful to J/80 Competitors.

We love Jam....!!
So, we’re celebrating with a Jam Jamboree!!!
It's all about how cool real, proper jam is...the stuff packed with fruit instead of sugar.
The Jam Jamboree is a celebration of all things jammy. The theme for 2012 is afternoon tea. Unfortunately, jam in the U.K. is perceived as a second-rate commoditised product. We've fallen out of love with jam. It's time we reminisced with some tea, scones and jam...
Jam is cool. Jam reminds us of our childhoods, playing out in the sunshine with jam butties and mucky elbows. Jam went into the first cakes we made with our parents. As adults, jam is fantastic with cheese, ice cream, croissants, brioche, meat, scones, pate, pancakes, and waffles. We are of course talking about 'proper jam', not the cheap, sugary stuff that seems to dominate the shelves nowadays. Yes, a 'smoothie in a jar', where you can really taste the fruit!
We’re going to ‘pimp up our jam’ by having a few homemade pots on offer...jam, tarts, jam sandwiches, a few jammy dodgers!!
Check out this petition to support proper jam;
