Kingswear Regatta

Kingswear Regatta
Saturday 8th September 2012 to Sunday 9th September 2012

Kingswear Regatta

Each year Kingswear Regatta aims to provide a fun, local family weekend, hopefully with something for everyone.

This year we have chosen Froward Point National Coastwatch and the national charity Help for Heroes as our main beneficiaries. The latter is an exception to the local rule but we felt it would prove a popular choice.

The Regatta enjoys a unique location with Waterhead Creek providing opportunities for fun and more serious rowing races. Why not have a go yourself ? There are several ‘enter on the day’ events. Jubilee Park itself provides an area of grass where families can picnic and relax, be entertained and allow their children to play safely.

Good food, good company and lots of fun are always the order of the day!

Agatha Christie Festival

Agatha Christie Festival
Sunday 9th September 2012 to Sunday 16th September 2012

Agatha Christie Festival

Each year, the English Riviera transforms itself into the murder mystery capital of the country, with ladies and gents in their period finery immersing themselves in tea parties, theatre, dinners on steam trains and vintage bus tours. Why? For the annual Agatha Christie Festival in honour of the Queen of Crime, who was born in Torquay in 1890.

The festival is a fabulous occasion for fans from all over the world to congregate and celebrate Dame Agatha Christie’s life and times. Round every corner there is a murder mystery: on steam trains, in spooky country inns, and in rambling seaside pubs. You’ll also find competitions, book launches, exclusive events and even a birthday fireworks display.

The official Agatha Christie Theatre Company perform their latest production at the Princess Theatre (2012 is Murder on the Nile) and Poirot is ever on-hand should there be a case or two to solve.

Greenway House, Agatha Christie's Dart-side home is a short ferry ride with Greenway Ferries from Dartmouth....and the gardens will be looking fabulous in September!

Printmaking from the River Course at Coombe Farm Studios

Printmaking from the River Course at Coombe Farm Studios
Friday 14th September 2012 to Sunday 16th September 2012

Printmaking from the River *NEW DATE ADDED*
Course led by Kate Marshall
September 14th 2012 - September 16th 2012 (3 Days)

Printmaking from Rivers is a course designed to explore a range of printmaking techniques within a unique environment and be inspired by the near-by river and its gifts. This course is open to beginners or experienced print makers wanting to work alongside others. Techniques covered during the course are Drypoint on plastic, Linocut, Chine Colle, and Collographs.

Kate Marshall lives and works in Devon, graduating from Goldsmiths in 2004 with a BA in Fine Art and History, Live Art performance often feature in her shows; including the 2006 Liverpool Biennial, which received coverage on BBC 2 and her debut solo show in London in 2007 which was singled out by the Sunday Times as a must see. Kate has been asked to participate in fundraisers for women’s rights in Mexico alongside Paula Rego and The Royal Society of Portrait Painters and for the Prince’s Trust at Bonham’s.

Kate’s primarily figurative work ‘flirts between painting and drawing’. Her self-consciously decorative pieces address the ironies and contradiction of ‘high’ and ‘low’ art and depictions of the sexualized female image in popular culture. Kate has exhibited at Coombe Gallery Dartmouth and regularly exhibits in London and internationally.

Kate fell in love with printmaking in 2008 and quickly mastered the techniques that she is passionate about sharing during this course. A master of line, form and colour she is currently working on a handmade book called GREAT LIVES OF THE ARTISTS, inspired by the cult of the celebrity artist from Vasari's Lives of the Great Artists to the contemporary fascination with the drunken antics of the YBAs. It is an exploration of the historical role of printmaking and the differences between conceptual art and craft. Kate attends the Dartington Print Workshop.

During this three-day course Kate will talk about finding inspiration and how we can make images from the world around us. In the spirit of Coombe’s courses she will share the skills and techniques she has developed in her own professional work and encourage students to experiment. By the end of the course participants can expect to gain confidence with the mediums and techniques and produce either a small edition of prints, a small series, or learn to bind a few prints together into a simple book.
