Candlelit Dartmouth Lantern Making Workshop

Candlelit Dartmouth Lantern Making Workshop
Sunday 15th November 2015

Candlelit Dartmouth Lantern Making Workshop
Sunday 15th November, 10am - 4pm
Stoke Fleming Youth Club

Other lantern making workshops for use in the Saturday lantern procession will take place on;
Sun. 22nd November, 10am-4pm Dartmouth Academy

The 9th Candlelit Dartmouth lantern procession is happening on Saturday 28th November.

This year, there's a bit of a change for our lantern-making workshops. Instead of focusing our efforts on workshops in the local primary schools - where participation is restricted to one class per school - this year we're organising a number of community-based workshops so that children of all ages, families and friends who want to join the Candlelit Dartmouth procession all have the opportunity to make and carry their own lantern.

One of two more workshops may still be added to this schedule so it's worth checking again from time to time.

All workshops run from 10am - 4pm and are open to all - but please note that all children under 9 must be accompanied by an adult. Just turn up at any time but please allow 2-3 hours to complete your lantern. All materials will be provided. However, you may find it useful to bring along your own secateurs. All lanterns must be taken away by 4pm - we have no facility to store lanterns at any of the workshops - not even overnight.

There is a charge of £5 per lantern to cover materials . The majority of lantern-makers that we've canvassed reckon this is a small price to pay for several hours of workshop activity and to have a lantern to take home at the end of the day. It certainly helps our task of fundraising for the Candlelit Dartmouth weekend.

The Candlelit Dartmouth team would like to thank the custodians of each of the workshop venues for generously waiving hire fees to enable us to offer these affordable workshops to the local communities.

Totnes Good Food Market

Totnes Good Food Market
Sunday 15th November 2015

Totnes Good Food Market

The Totnes Good Food Market is held on the 3rd Sunday of each month from 10am to 3pm. Now in it’s fifth year, the market is the biggest monthly producers & farmers market in the Westcountry.

Regularly attracting over 55 traders each month, the Totnes Good Food Sunday market has become the biggest fine food and drink market in Devon and is rapidly becoming the largest in the South West.

GOLD AWARD FOR TOTNES SUNDAY FOOD MARKET - The Totnes Good Food Sunday Market, which captures that elusive “Totnesian vibe”, has just struck gold winning the Taste of the West Hospitality and Retail Gold Award 2014 for best food market in Devon.

Launched in June 2010 with just over twenty producers, the market has grown month by month both in reputation and popularity. It attracts food lovers from all over the region, with three-quarters of its traders coming from within a 30 mile radius of Totnes. The market has also been award-nominated and warranted mentions in local and national newspapers and magazines.
If the TGFS leaves you wanting more, you may also like to visit their sister market which takes place on the first Sunday of every month in the Royal William Yard, again with over 50 food traders. The Good Food at the Yard runs from March to December.

Alf's Christmas Chocolate Draw for Teenage Cancer Trust

Alf's Christmas Chocolate Draw for Teenage Cancer Trust
Saturday 28th November 2015 to Wednesday 23rd December 2015

After the success of previous Christmas prize draws, which last year raised money for local charity Vocal Advocacy, this year we will be raising funds for Teenage Cancer Trust.

Teenage Cancer Trust is the only UK charity dedicated to improving the lives of young people dealing with cancer and in June 2014, they opened the South West’s first specialist unit for young people aged 16 – 24 years old with cancer at the Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre. This unit compliments the ward opened in 2012 at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children for 11 – 16 year olds. For the first time young people with cancer from across the South West region can now be treated alongside others the same age, by staff who are teenage cancer experts, in a space specially designed to meet their unique needs.

Pop in and buy a draw ticket for the chance to win the fabulous prize of a huge handcrafted chocolate Christmas Snow Scene including a gingerbread-style house, giant baubles, Christmas trees, Father Christmas, Snowmen and festive treats, hand crafted by local master chocolatiers, Cockington Chocolate Company.

The winner will be announced on Wednesday the 23rd December.
